On the weekend we attended a wedding, a union between two new friends and it was very special. I meet “Meeks” at Aidan’s preschool and casually built up a friendship as her daughter and my son were smitten with each other. We invited their family to Aidan’s birthday party and we all just hit it off, even Steve and he’s a hard nut to crack. We were excited to get to know this family better but sadly a month later they had to move for “JJ’s” work.
Meeks + JJ got married on Saturday and it was full of personal touches, honest moments and happy faces. I felt really lucky to be included in their day and it just kind of cemented the fact that distance really didn’t mean much. I know that when I go to visit Stephanie in Tassie I’ll be welcomed into their home with open arms too, that’s just the kind of people they are.
As I sat there and listen to their vows I had flashbacks of my own. It’s been several years since I’ve attended a wedding, let alone my own and I remembered why women always tend to cry at these things. I get it now. Next month Steve and I will be celebrating our 11th year together and our 7th wedding anniversary. Times flies. No seriously… wooooooosh!
Now lets talk about these dudes, my main men. Aidan couldn’t wait to get dressed up in his “wedding outfit” he’d had it laid out for days and I could barely stop him from bouncing as he slipped it on. He was so excited to see Opal and he wanted to look his best, so sweet. Even Steve didn’t complain or cause a fuss about having to get dressed up, thankfully it was pretty relaxed for the guys.

One of the guests was kind enough to take a family portrait for us, the perfect opportunity whilst the bridal party was off taking theirs. It’s not the best but it’s still really lovely, it kind of freaks me out how old Aidan looks to be honest.
My husband. I don’t talk about him much here because well, that’s my personal line in the sand but know this, he’s my best friend above all others and my home no matter where we may be. He’s gone through his own personal development journey over the past two years and has inspired me greatly, he may be six years older than me but we’re growing wiser together. Love him.
Right, the wedding… we discovered a horse eating a watermelon, we met new friends, we ate canapés on the lawn then had a wonderful three course meal and heard touching tales from Meeks + JJ’s family and friends. The children danced on a mix of sugar and over-tiredness under the disco ball and we drove home late into the night with smiles on our faces.
My hair is currently having a bit of a moment, it swings violently either way between awesome and atrocious. The humidity wasn’t doing me any favours so I whipped it up into a fancy-casual updo with twists and tucks and a crystal hair piece but of course I forgot to take a photo so you’ll have to trust me that it looks good from the back. I kept my make up soft and natural and it stayed put all day and night, even though I applied it in the car on the way there.
I’ve worn this dress before to the races and I attempted to sell it recently but I think it will have to stay in my wardrobe forever. I’ll just have to get more creative with dressing it up differently, because let’s face it, it’s perfection. I had no idea what the other guest would be wearing (there was a strong rockabilly theme) so I dressed it down with a sweet cardigan and kept it simple with white pumps and the handbag my sister bought me for Christmas. For sentiment I also wore the beautiful precious crystal bracelet I wore at my own wedding. Ahh weddings… don’t you just love them!
